About LucioCaffe Lucio is owned by locally well known chef Lucio Fanni. He was born on the island of Sardinia and raised in Milan. Twenty years ago he moved to San Francisco and opened Cafe Greco, which is still a landmark establishment in North Beach . After many successful restaurants in the city, Lucio went fishing near Capitola, caught a big fish and decided to move his passionate cooking to this unique village. He named it Al Dente. Soon he needed more space, and Lucio moved his kitchen to Seabright area in Santa Cruz. For many years, Al Dente was famous for this chef with a larger-than-life personality who makes the best pasta around. A disco ball, music and fog machine often accompanied the dining experience. Last year Lucio sold Al Dente and started looking for a new home... until he realized that there is no better place than Santa Cruz! In June 2007, he opened his new restaurant Caffe Lucio on the corner of Soquel Avenue and Ocean Street. Lucio kept the open kitchen where you can often see him tossing your pasta. More seating area means waiting times are shorter than the original Al Dente. Music is pleasant and quiet and a full bar has been added. Lucio also built a patio that is inviting to all his customers, on two legs and four! |
